As the European debt crisis continues to unfold, the difficult economic and political decisions are starting to become clear.  We'll see if they have the will to make the needed changes to keep the euro zone together.

I have written extensively about the financial crisis and the regulation enacted as a result.  I believe the regulation will generally be ineffective in presenting this sort of risky behavior in the future.  Unfortunately, it takes legal action against leading figures in the crisis to bring home the personal consequences of this type of behavior.

One of the important factors behind the current unrest in the Middle East is the high level of unemployment among the exploding youth populations throughout the region.  This article provides a historical perspective on the regions inability to provide job growth.

The current fiscal problems and challenges affecting municipalities around the country have been well documented in the popular press.  The effect on specific cities will be dependent on local growth rates, traditional fiscal restraint, and flexibility shown by affected parties.  The problem is uncertain and complex but will certainly affect us all in years to come.
